Dear Mother: June 12, 1917

I am in receipt of a Field Service Post Card from Carman, saying that he is wounded and in Hospital in France but doing well. In fact he starts out with "I am quite well". So from what I can make out he is slightly wounded. I hope he will be able to make Blighty. That is what they all hope for – "A Blighty", which means a wound severe enough to bring them back to England. Don’t worry. No doubt you will have been officially notified before this from the War Department.

I am busy writing a letter of condolence to Topps. It is hard to do so, but easy when you have seen enough of a boy who always tried to be square. He was respected throughout the 201 and I do wish he had stayed with the Buffs instead of transferring to us. Most of his pals have been killed or wounded. Will write when I hear more from Carman.

Yours with love, Cannon R.R. No. 7 Lucknow, Ontario Canada
