Somewhere in France, Sept 5 1918

Dear Steve:

I guess you think I have entirely forgotten you on r that only at rare and irregular intervals I think of you enough to drop the odd "whizz-bang".  Well it is hardly as bas as that for I've been so busy following up the progress of events that letter writingn has been out of the question beyond an occasional screed to those at home.

I hear at intervals of your movements in that little Ford.  But it is quite a while since I heard from you altho even at that I owe you a letter or two.

Tonight I went out to buy myself some writing paper- and it's poor stuff too, but I ran into so many old friends that darkness is comingon before I can get even this one written.

How is your work coming on?  Crop reports seem to be failry good and as long as Huron's farmers have good crops their Agric. Rep should be held in good regard.  The weather here is hot and dry but that has been largely in our favour in the field, atho the heat at times was intense.  The farmers seem to have progressed fairly well with their harvesting and the fields present a change of appearance since last I had time to reflect upon rural and natural beauties.

I was sorry Jessie failed her metric, but it was a relief that Carman surmounted all difficulties and qualified for such a good position.  He should succed with Husky as a colleaque and guide.

Remember mem to old friends and with best regards I will close.

Yours in F, L & T

Cannon

PS. Emma S. & Laura I seem to have done their duty by their country in these perilous times.  Cannot refrain from remarking upon the situation. JCS.
