Somewhere in France April 19,1918

Dear Steve:

Received a letter from you in Canadian mail that cam in last night and note that you are in Clinton opening up a new office for the Dept. of Agric.  I hope Isaac can see his way clear to stay home and take charge of the homestead, unless that OAC course has turned his mind away from practical farming.

I wrote full particulars of my gas poisoning and you will know before this that I'm not serioulsy impaired in health.  I've been 'carrying on' for three or four weeks and am getting fitter all the time. You speak of SL Cooper an Irishman don't listen to his blandishments if he is the is the same Cooper who used to have a Flour and Feed business in Goderich.  I used to know him when I attended GCI and boarded with Morrow's, Bill Morrow had a grocery store almost opposite Cooper's place on Hamilton St. near Fairs Hotel.  He is quite a characater and a sharp fellow to deal with.

Lloyed Alton B.A. SC, wrote me quite an interesting and enlightening letter on the economic conditions in Canada including a dissertation on the Canadian Railway situation.  He didn't say whether his lungs had improved appreciable or not but he seems to have become quite an ardent poulty man specializing in laying hens.

I didn't get a letter from Carman but Bailie wrote of his doings in full.

Pardon brevity,

Yours in FL & T

Cannon
